Graduate student, Bradley Powell, wins first place at “Doing Intersectionality” Symposium co-organized by graduate student Erin K. Phelps

On April 27, 2017, the “Doing Intersectionality” Symposium, organized by Sociology graduate student Erin K. Phelps and Dashawn Hickman, celebrated LGBTQA+ centered work and the people that create it. Sociology graduate student, Bradley Powell, won first place in Oral Presentations for his paper “Power and Prevention: A Qualitative Inquiry into Racial Power Dynamics in HIV Prevention.” The event was sponsored by ACES+ McBride Lecture Endowment and the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity.

Alumni, Donte Gibbs, has been selected as the George Gund Foundation Fellow for 2017-2019

Donte Gibbs, the Youth Engagement Director at Neighborhood Leadership Institute, has been selected as The George Gund Foundation Fellow for 2017-2019. Donte received a B.A. in sociology from Case Western Reserve University in 2010 and a master’s degree in Social Science Administration from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at CWRU. The Fellows program will provide Donte the opportunity to work for two years inside the George Gund Foundation, a foundation that plays an active role in supporting the civic life of Greater Cleveland and in various national policy deliberations that impact our community.
